This month we were thrilled to host Michael Colbear on his third visit to Tanzania from New Life Church Okehampton, and his team of willing strong men – Andrew, Ian, Dan, and Philip.
They spent time with us putting a new roof on, and converting, a cow shed at Magorofani into a chicken shed, and also spent three days on Mt Meru building a two room wooden house for an elderly man who, since being widowed, has had nowhere to live and call home.
• A huge thank you to Robert Lloyd and his friends in Canada who raised the funds to convert the cow/chicken shed, and to everyone at New Life who contributed to the men’s trip and helped us to buy the chicks! The kids loved having this team over – lots of soccer playing and water-fights every day! The chicken shed enables us to start a project raising layer hens, to provide eggs for our children and also have enough to sell. We have started with 100 day-old chicks, and they are growing fast in their new home!
• Our nursery class closed for the Christmas holidays on November 28th. We had a graduation party complete with games, cake, and graduation certificates for Jennice and Faidha who are going on to primary school in January. We also celebrated volunteer Katie’s birthday, and so we just HAD to have another party!
• Another charity organised a sports and fun day for hundreds of children in different centres in Arusha. Our children attended and did well in the running events – Joshua won the 100m and 800m dash. Kanuti came 2nd in one of his races.
• We were thrilled to see old friends from Jerry Savelle Ministries, Texas over for a week to work with our Arusha church here. We were blessed to take part in some projects together with the JSMI team including giving gift packages (blanket, sugar, tea, oil…) to 300 widows and elderly in our local area. Wendy organised the logistics and our kids, staff, and visitors (Chris and Hallie in October) helped pack the food bags and distribute them.
• For some time we have been looking for land to purchase to build our own housing and a daycare/nursery – prices for land continue to rise here, and we know we need to secure land as soon as we can. We have found three acres of very good farm land at an affordable price, and have started the long process (in Tanzania anyway…) of acquiring the proper legal documents for the land. We are raising funds specifically for the land purchase – we will need around £26,500 ($40,000) for the land and legal fees!
