NEWS update
BRINGING HOPE TO A NEW
August 2010

August was a month to take a bit of a breather, enjoy being in our new home, and start to get to know neighbours, and our local area. There is still some building and decorating going on, but at a much calmer pace!

Many afternoons, Faith, Rebecca, and Wendy, have just sat and watched the kids enjoying themselves playing in the garden, riding on their bicycles, playing music, and going to/from school.

We have two new volunteers, Nicholas and Siobhan, each with us for three months. Siobhan is concentrating on developing our younger children’s reading and writing skills, while Nicholas is doing some carpentry and teaching his music skills to our kids , who are loving it, and it is so wonderful to hear guitars, keyboards, and drums being played all day long. Johnson and Kanuti are on half-term, and Johnson in particular is soaking up all the new guitar chords and techniques he is learning!

Other highlights:

Birthdays in August: Mahija (7); Elizabeth (13). We celebrated Mahija’s (and Mariam’s and Faidha’s jointly) by watching Toy Story 3 at the cinema (lots of popcorn and ice-cream too). We celebrated Elizabeth’s (and Careen’s; Riziki’s; Mwajuma’s; Fatuma’s) birthday by dinner at our favourite BBQ chicken restaurant.

The soil is beautifully fertile here, and we are on our second planting already. We are producing most of the greens we need now and the children are getting much more vegetables than before! Our kids and mamas have got their own garden set up too now.

We made a video about our new compound – if your internet speed is up to it click here!

Wendy went home to the US for a visit – her first time home for four years!

There is just a wonderful sense of peace here, and we can all get on with our lives at our own pace. Children and staff have such a strong sense of ownership – this is truly our home now!

We do have an important point for prayer too: one of our Mamas, Norah, is in hospital having been ill for some months now. Please pray for her for the strength and faith she needs to get through this difficult time.
